Mirroring, and why it is not rotation
A flip reflects the image across an axis; a rotation turns it. Flip a photo of someone holding a sign and the sign reads backwards — rotate it 180° and the whole picture is upside down instead. Both are here, and both are lossless: the pixels move to new positions without being recalculated.
Horizontal, vertical, or both
Toggle either axis and the preview mirrors immediately. Applying both is the same as a 180° rotation, which is why they share a panel with it.
Nothing is recalculated
A mirror maps every pixel to a new coordinate without interpolating, so the result is exactly as sharp as the original. There is no quality setting because there is no loss to trade.

What is the difference between flipping and rotating an image?
Flipping mirrors the image across an axis, so text becomes reversed. Rotating turns it around its centre, so text stays readable but the whole frame is reoriented. Flipping both horizontally and vertically gives the same result as rotating 180°.
How do I mirror a selfie so text reads correctly?
Front cameras often save the preview-mirrored version, which reverses any writing. Flip Horizontal once and the text reads the right way round again.
Does flipping an image lose quality?
No. A flip moves each pixel to a mirrored coordinate with no resampling, so the output is exactly as sharp as the input. Whatever quality change you see comes only from the format you save as.
Can I flip only part of an image?
Not directly — the flip applies to the whole canvas. You can crop to the region you want first, flip that, and save it, but there is no partial or layered flip here.
Will the flip be visible in the saved file?
Yes. It is applied to the pixels, not stored as a metadata hint, so every viewer and every editor sees the mirrored version.
